ABOUT GINA LINNELL
Cornwall based Wildlife Artist on Wood
I'm a self-taught wildlife artist with a passion for painting British Wildlife on beautiful pieces of reclaimed wood. I live with my wonderful husband Glenn, my fox red labrador, Bo and cheeky cat, Molly in the Tamar valley in Cornwall. I love, and always have loved to spend time outside in nature; whether it be the countryside, coast or woodland, I feel more at home outside, than in and so my wildlife art is really about bringing a little bit of nature into your home.

I began my journey of painting on reclaimed wood during what was a very difficult season of life. My husband had became unwell with a long-term health condition and I became his full time carer. During this season the woods (behind my then, Hampshire home), the local wildlife and my artwork became an anchor for me; a light in the darkness so to speak. They helped to give me a positive focus rather than drown in the difficultly of our circumstances. When I first began painting, I never imagined that it would lead to where I am today. I was suffering with carer-burnout and PTSD symptoms at the time and I knew within myself that I needed to slow down. I thought that botanical art might help as it speaks of really taking time to observe your subject before starting to paint (something I struggled with). And, so I started out by painting a late foxglove that I found up the woods. Soon after I had the idea to paint this young foxglove on a beautiful piece of reclaimed yew I had. And so the journey began...

.... my collection of wood artwork for walls has grow from here into a vast array of wildlife paintings on wood. I have a particular passion for painting birds such as woodpeckers and kingfishers because, simply put, birds just make me happy! And I want my wildlife art to make people smile too.

Creativity has helped me immensely throughout the years and so I'm a huge advocate of using creativity (in all it's forms) to help with mental and emotional health. For me, creativity (and particularly painting) has helped me to grow and ultimately to become myself. I could never have imagined selling my reclaimed wood wall art; its a dream come true.

So, I love to paint on beautiful pieces of reclaimed or sustainable wood and am also painting more and more on driftwood now that I live by the sea. For me the wood, the grain and it's character is just as important as the artwork itself. And where possible I like to paint wildlife that would have a natural connection with the type of wood. My hand-painted pictures on wood not only celebrate the beauty of our local wildlife but also the wood itself. My paintings make the perfect gift for wood lovers and nature lovers alike so keep an eye on my website for my latest nature-inspired gifts.
