"Dartmoor View" is my first painting inspired by the beautiful landscape of Dartmoor national park which I'm lucky enough to have right on my doorstep.
 
This original deer painting on English oak has been lovingly hand-painted in acrylic paint on a stunning piece of live-edge wood. The unique markings on the wood give the impression of a natural landscape already, and so I've added some light washes of colour in with the natural colouring of the wood to give the impression of a Dartmoor landscape. 
 
I have painted the two deer on this unique piece of English Oak as to celebrate the beauty of the natural wood and the wildlife itself.

I paint British wildlife on wood rather than canvas as I love using wood as a natural and sustainable background to my artwork. Much of the wood that I work with is reclaimed and therefore has some beautiful markings and character that deserve to be preserved and celebrated for years to come. This is a one-off piece of British wildlife art and having been coated in a flat matt varnish for protection, it should stand the test of time and can be treasured for a life-time.
